Conference Updates – Wexted Advisors Continues to Support Industry Bodies and Networks
At Wexted, we’re fortunate to be able to show our support and share our expertise across an extensive range of restructuring and insolvency bodies and networks. Here’s a quick update on what we’ve been up to and what peaked our interest.
Association of Independent Insolvency Practitioners (AIIP)
On 22 August 2024, Andrew McCabe and Jessie Wang of Wexted Advisors attended the AIIP Sydney Mini Conference, “What’s Going On,” held at Macquarie Bank offices. The conference focused on the rise of Small Business Restructuring (SBR) and featured key market updates, including:
- An update on ATO recovery measures by Jullian Kitto, ATO Assistant Commissioner,
- Insights into recent ATO data on SBR approvals by Gary Busby, ATO Senior Insolvency Advisor,
- Presentation of groundbreaking research on SBR by Amanda Bull, PhD Candidate at Queensland University of Technology, followed by a panel discussion with professionals working closely with the SBR regime.
A highlight of the day was a presentation by Justice Michael Lee, who shared his expertise on “The Quick, Inexpensive, and Efficient Resolution of Disputes.”
Women’s Insolvency Network Australia (WINA)
On 29 August 2024, Wexted Advisors’ team members, Andrew McCabe and Jessie Wang, were thrilled to attend the WINA Charity Fundraiser Luncheon. The event supported the KYUP! Project, an initiative dedicated to combating domestic violence against women and children in Australia through evidence-based programs. To date, KYUP! has empowered over 10,000 young individuals across Australia and New Zealand. All event profits were donated to this crucial cause.
Key speakers included Mel Thomas, CEO of the KYUP! Project, and John Yates, QPM, Non-Executive Director of KYUP! and former Deputy Commissioner at New Scotland Yard, London. Wexted Advisors is proud to support this meaningful initiative and contribute to empowering women and children affected by domestic violence.
Turnaround Management Association (TMA)
Empowerment is a core value in modern business, but how it is applied is crucial. At the TMA Network of Women (NOW) Breakfast on 11 September 2024, Tracey Warren, CEO and Founding Partner of F5 Collective, explored the concept of an empowered workforce and how businesses can ensure it benefits both employees and the organisation.
The NOW Breakfast attracted a large turnout, despite the early start, and Wexted Advisors was delighted to support the initiative by hosting two tables. Guests included Caitlin Murray from Minter Ellison, Clare Thompson from Turks Legal, Helene Roins from LCM Finance, Jemimah George and Phoebe Martin from Pinsent Masons, Kylie Lundy from ERA Legal, Laura Quarrell from Stanton & Stanton, Orla McCoy from Gilbert + Tobin, and Sarah Ng from CBA. They joined Wexted’s Andrew McCabe, Angus Malouf, Chris Johnson, Emma Massey, Finnbar Stenmark, Jessie Wang, Joe Hayes, Lilly Dean, Max Florian, and Nisha Banka.
Following the event, Wexted Advisors proudly signed the TMA Voluntary Code for Equitable Insolvency & Restructuring Appointments (EIRA). The EIRA Code mandates the inclusion of at least one woman in formal appointments involving three or more joint appointees. With female registered liquidators representing less than 11% of the national total, this initiative aims to foster greater gender diversity in the industry.
Wexted Advisors is honoured to be among the early signatories of the EIRA Code, reinforcing our commitment to increasing female representation in restructuring and insolvency.
Australian Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association (ARITA)
Wexted Advisors continues to actively engage with ARITA through participation in various training and networking events, including the national and small practice conferences and young professional networking gatherings.
We are excited to host a table at the upcoming ARITA NSW/ACT Division Conference Dinner on 30 October 2024 and look forward to connecting with our peers and industry colleagues at this significant event.
