WEXTED ANALYST IS A WARATAH

Wexted Advisors analyst Ben Sugars topped off a great season for Randwick Rugby Club with his selection this year in the NSW Waratahs Super Rugby Pacific squad.

Ben was a key player in Randwick’s historic 2023 Premiership winning season. Continuing his form in 2024, Ben was the club’s best and fairest player and was selected by the NSW Waratahs to join their squad late in the year.

Ben played the last 4 games of the season, debuting against the ACT Brumbies in Round 12.

Hailing from Leeds, Ben graduated from the University of Nottingham with a Bachelor of Economics in 2022. He joined Wexted in 2023 as an analyst, moving to Australia to experience the lifestyle, improve his rugby and begin his professional career development.

“Wexted Advisors combined with Randwick Rugby Club and created a great opportunity for Ben to both advance his career and his rugby – it has been a superb experience for the firm, the club and the man.”

A GAME OF TWO HALVES

Ben discovered Wexted through their partnership with Randwick Rugby Club. The club and firm worked together to balance Ben’s rugby and professional goals. In fact, the professional business and sporting parallels quickly became evident; none more so than communication and a commitment to detail, in order to secure the best outcome.

While at Wexted, Ben has already gained great experience in formal appointments, as well as Safe Harbour and Financial Modelling assignments and has become a hugely valuable member of the Wexted team, demonstrating strong technical and presentation skills.

Working life balance is a big part of Wexted’s culture. The firm gave Ben the flexibility to balance his commitments

between professional business and rugby, without jeopardising his development and options in either.

After being called into the Waratahs, Wexted provided Ben with the framework to work on the days he didn’t have training, and focus on his rugby obligations as and when required.

When the Super Rugby season ended, everybody at the firm was supportive in his transition back to the workplace, allowing a refocus of energy into his professional career.

For Ben, the flexible mentoring provided by his Wexted colleagues has been essential to his career thus far — understanding the nuances in the insolvency industry at a much faster rate than if their guidance wasn’t there.

Proudest sporting moment

Ben’s proudest sporting moment was his Waratahs debut at Allianz Stadium against the ACT Brumbies, closely followed by winning the Shute Shield in 2023. His ultimate goal is to play professionally, while still developing his professional acumen outside of rugby. At Wexted, we’re proud to have Ben as a key part of our team, and look forward to supporting him to reach his goals as a professional sportsman and advisor.

“Teamwork is a fundamental part of any professional environment, whether that be in sport or in the workplace. I believe my time spent in sports teams has proven invaluable in the professional world. Sport allows you to develop the ability to communicate and work with people to achieve a common goal, which has proven an essential skill in my developing career at Wexted.”
